How do I indent a pipe in a step?

getting error 'Expected either a string or a pipe' in validator using:

                  variables:
                      AWS_ACCESS_KEY_ID: $AWS_ACCESS_KEY_ID

                      Etc'

A matter of correcting whitespace formatting in the validator, so that even though it looks correct it actually validates.
