Is there any way I change the branch naming scheme to use issue id and project code, e.g. “AAA-3-FC”, instead of the full issue description we have now ("AAA-3-implement-new-widget-test"

It's not configurable via the BB UI as far as I know. You're in the Cloud so you cannot edit it the source so I think your only option here is to:
Search or Create a BB plugin to do what you want
Raise a "feature request" against BB in the Atlassian public issue tracker (jira.atlassian.com)
