How do I add an exist java project to a git repository

I am new to using the command prompt and the only instructions under "Step 2: Add a file to your local repository and put in on Bitbucket" is to create a new file. I am looking to add an existing java project instead. What command should I use to make this happen?

Hi Genevieve, welcome to the Community!

The steps are different depending on which stage you're in. Looks like you already have an existing file so you'll just need to push that one to Bitbucket.

• If your project is already using Git, you can follow the steps at Push versioned code to an empty repository.
• If your project is not using Git yet, you'll need to initialize it first as explained at Add unversioned code to a repository and then push it following Push versioned code to an empty repository.

If you don't have Bitbucket Cloud but Bitbucket Server, you'll find the instructions at Importing code from an existing project.
