I know it must be the simplest thing in the world, but how can I edit the overview page for a repository?

You can update the Overview page by adding a Readme file to your repo. The instructions found here should be helpful: https://confluence.atlassian.com/display/BITBUCKET/Displaying+README+Text+on+the+Overview
