File limit and intended function of the Downloads Section

Christopher Wilson

Two questions really:

  • What are the limitations of the Downloads section? File size, file number, etc. And does it count as apart of the 1GB/2GB repository limit?
  • What is the intended function of the Downloads section? I can think of many things to do with it, but I can't find info on how they meant for it to be use.

I don't know the limitations, but if you're developing a desktop application, the Downloads section would be the appropriate place to post compiled binaries or installers for official releases.

For other projects, you may still want to post zips of your project for official release numbers, for users who don't need the entire repository (including history).

You might also include files or binaries that aren't part of your repository but complement it in some way, such as dependencies or samples.
