Delete branches from merged pull requests

Eric Poe
February 18, 2025

In looking through my team's branches in Bitbucket Cloud, I'm seeing many from pull requests which had already been merged into `main`. I have two questions regarding this:

  1. How can I find a list of branches merged into `main` yet still exist?
  2. How can I default to "yes" the option to delete a branch after it has been merged while creating a PR?
    • Update 2025-04-02: This feature has been rolled out. Turn it on via "Repository settings" > "Branching model" and look for "Delete source branch by default"

Hi @Eric Poe

1. The branches page in the repository menu has a 'Merged branches' filter.

2. This is currently not supported but there is a feature request here.

Alternatively, we provide a Bitbucket Cloud App - Flowie, which has support for defining default values such as close source.

That's a huge help, thank you!
