Account recovery due to lost e-mail address

I need to download my personal repositories (all data that I generated) from a BitBucket account for which I no longer have access to the associated e-mail address. I do know the password.

GDPR support sent me here stating that repositories that I generated in its entirety is not personal data.

I see other posts on here stating that such recovery is not possible. However, I find that hard to believe since I've been able to recover every other service, including my GitHub account, by submitting government ID. Atlassian must have a process for this.

I'd appreciate any help that I can get - thanks!

Hello @Andrew Loheac

Welcome to the Atlassian community.

If you know the password and the password, are you not able to use that to login to Bitbucket Cloud? If you encounter an issue with that login, what is the issue you encounter?

Why do you no longer have access to the email account? Was it a personal email account that you chose to delete?

Was it an account provided to you by an employer? If so, then you may not have a claim to the data. The employer may have employment documentation that says anything associated with the identity provided by the company is company property.

I found another post with a response from Atlassian Team Member that might be relevant to your situation:

https://community.atlassian.com/forums/Bitbucket-questions/I-can-not-login-due-my-primary-email-no-longer-works/qaq-p/3168173

If the login is triggering a request for a verification which is sent to the email account you can no longer access:

The OTP challenge is sent to the primary email address that belongs to the associated Bitbucket Cloud account. This challenge email is triggered whenever an unrecognised device attempts to login to the account, or the geolocation of the device has changed. This is a mandatory security measure to protect user accounts which unfortunately cannot be bypassed.

If you no longer have access to the primary email account, you won't be able to access the repo unless somebody who does have access to it grants you access through a new Atlassian cloud account.

Thanks, that's the one I had found before. I can't believe Atlassian doesn't have a way to recover accounts like other companies do. This is why the cloud is never a safe place to store your data.
