Hi @Almudena Eraña,

Thanks for this question. For sure, other Bamboo users might be interested in this topic too.

At Bamboo, we do not have a Wizard for that, but a series of steps to follow which will allow you performing the database migration as wished.

Let me list up what you need to do, so to provide an overview first. Further down I'll attach our "Migration HowTos", one for Linux and another one for Windows.

So here, what you should to for your Bamboo 6.10.3 instance:

  1. Assuming that PostgreSQL 9.4 as well as your Bamboo instance are up and running, perform a Bamboo Export containing all our database data and your current Bamboo home directory.
  2. Next stop your Bamboo instance, so either its service or process. You may also stop your old database, PostgreSQL 9.4 at this point.
  3. Then download a fresh e.g. Zip of your current Bamboo 6.10.3, extract the Zip to a new Bamboo installation directory and re-use your recent Bamboo configuration for it.
  4. Install, setup and run PostgreDSQL 9.6. The start up thew new Bamboo installation per start-bamboo script (.sh or .bat) which will trigger Bamboo's Setup Wizard and there, in the Database Configuration step, run Import of the Zip archive created in step
  5. Once Bamboo is installed now linked up to PostgreSQL 9.6, just run a database re-indexing and you're ready.

For Windows using the Bamboo Installer file (in 32- or 64-bit version) what differs from the above is that for step 3 you run the Windows Installer and select in its Wizzard "Update the existing installation" and also re-use your already existing Bamboo home folder.

For step 4 proceed similar to what's said above. Thus bring up an empty PostgreSQL 9.6 database, start your updated Bamboo per start batch and within the Bamboo Setup Wizard chose "Import existing data", again pointing to the export Zip from point 1.

On a side-note, it's always good to create a backup of your current Bamboo instance and possibly also a database dump. You should not need it.

However it you'd need it, you could simply role back to your old version with its working database configuration for PostgreSQL 9.4.

Now here, as promised, both HowTos - please let us know if you have any further doubt or concern with the process or our documents.

We hope that with this information migration works fine for you. If not, just get back to us, preferably per this thread.

Thanks, Gerhard
