I am using JUnit Test Suites that group Test Cases (very standard approach). However, when I get the test results via the API it is only showing the test cases.

Bamboo doesn't provide such feature ATM. I encourage you to check our public issue tracker. If that issue is already reported upvote it, otherwise you can create an improvement request.
