If you follow the docs step my step, you shouldn't have a problem. It's pretty straightforward. Don't skip any steps and make sure you do all the grants. Also, make sure you're using a supported version of MySQL for the version of Bamboo you are running. Here's the supported platforms for 6.6-6.8, but if you're running an earlier version, you can check the page for your version.
