How to start an agent on Mac OSX to inherit system/user environment variables ?

Using Bamboo version 6.3.2 build 60307, we have installed the 6.3.2 bamboo agent on a Mac.

But running tasks have no access to the environment variables of the user starting the agent, i.e. additional exported variables set in .bashrc or .bash_profile?

I've tried setting RUN_AS_USER in the bamboo-agent.sh script, but that does not seem to work.
