Git submodule caches not available on agent?

I noticed that submodule caches are available on the bamboo server but not on the agent.
Is that intended behavior?

Cloning each sub-repository isolated is fast but as git-submodule it is very slow.

I do get the impression that these submodule caches are not being used at all during checkout since a checkout takes very long.

Currently submodules are not cached on agent and there are couple of feature request for the same
