Please provide an example of a rule that applies a label that I define to any ticket so I can sort

Kathy Burgess November 11, 2025

I am have a project that COULD turn into a large initiative but for now - it is a stand alone epic. I want to add a label with the name of the project so that IF it becomes a larger initiative, I can apply that label to any epic or initative and all the child ticket so that all tickets are easily tagged and found for dashboard and reporting creation...

I am trying to use the automation tool function to achieve this goal.. please advise..

Hi @Kathy Burgess

One way I could think of is find your epic with id using smart value in the when space and then anytime an item is linked copy the label.

Hi @Kathy Burgess

What have you tried thus far to solve this need?

If you have a rule that is not working as expected, context is important for the community to help.  Please post the following:

  • what version of Jira are you using: Cloud, Server, or Data Center
  • an image of your complete automation rule in a single image for continuity
  • images of any relevant actions / conditions / branches
  • an image of the audit log details showing the rule execution
  • explain what is not working as expected and why you believe that to be the case

Kind regards,
Bill
