Overview of changes to start dates for Epics

Rebecca Waller
April 13, 2026

We have a couple of teams that has been asking for overviews of how many times Start Date changes. We recently got Atlassian Analytics and are looking into what possibilities we have on this topic but I haven't yet learned how to master everything that is available.

Has anyone else been looking in to any nice charts for changes to Start Date and have tips and insights to share how to do this?

Hello @Rebecca Waller

This should be possible in Atlassian Analytics.

The table to start with is Work item history. That is the one that tracks field changes over time, so it is the right place to check how often an Epic’s Start date changed.

From there, filter to Epics and then to the Start date field. After that, you can either count how many times the date changed per Epic, or group the changes by week or month if you want more of an overview.

One thing to watch for is the initial value set when the Epic was created can also appear there. If you only want later changes, exclude rows where the old value is empty.

Also, if your Start date is a custom field, use the field ID/key instead of only the field name. That is usually more reliable in Analytics.
