Rovo Skills are available in Rovo Agents!

🚀 Rovo Skills Are Now Available in Rovo Agents! (Open Beta)

Rovo Skills are now available for all customers building custom agents in Rovo Studio. This marks the next step in making Rovo Skills available across the entire Atlassian ecosystem. You can now add Skills directly to your agents, giving them access to the same reusable, opinionated workflows that already power Rovo Chat.

What's special about Rovo Skills in agents

You already know that agents can do a lot with the tools available to them, but without a Skill, your agent has to figure out the best approach to a task on its own every time.

A Rovo Skill gives your agent:

  • The steps to take for a specific type of task.

  • An understanding of what "good" looks like for that task.

  • The ability to turn a request into consistent, reliable action, every time.

When you browse Skills in your agent's configuration, you get full transparency into what each Skill does before you add it:

  • Read the instructions to see exactly how the Skill approaches the task.

  • See the tools it uses to get the job done.

  • Understand the workflow so there's no mystery about what your agent will do when triggered.

A Skill might call a single tool, or it might orchestrate several tools with reasoning in between, deciding what to do next based on what it finds along the way. You get that sophistication without having to wire it up yourself.

We've built skills to help your agents:

  • Explain Jira workflows: Help users understand how a process works using the right Jira space context and terminology.

  • Investigate an incident: Gather relevant context, identify likely root causes, and recommend next steps.

  • Create a ticket triage doc: Analyze a JSM queue, prioritize open tickets, identify duplicates, recommend routing and assignees, and publish the results as a Confluence page.

A note on naming:

You may notice that what was previously called "Skills" in the agent builder has been renamed to "Tools." This better reflects what they actually are: individual actions your agent can perform (like sending a Slack message using the Slack MCP server or creating a Confluence page comment). Going forward:

  • Tools = individual actions with defined inputs and outputs. What the agent can do.
  • Rovo Skills = reusable instruction sets that combine tools with reasoning. How the agent does it well.

Learn more about Rovo agent tools here.

How to get started

  1. Open your agent's configuration in Rovo Studio.

  2. Browse the Skills section.

  3. Click Read on any Skill card to preview its instructions and required tools.

  4. Add it to your agent.

If a Skill requires a tool you haven't added, we automatically add it to your agent for you.

Beta notes:

This is launching as an open beta, but is available to all Studio customers. A couple of things to be aware of:

  • Some Skills that exist in Rovo Chat are unavailable in Rovo agents at this time.

  • Executing Skills using the slash command like in Rovo Chat does not work for Rovo agents at this time.

  • We're actively working on closing these gaps during this open beta phase.

We'd love your feedback as you try Rovo Skills in your agents. Drop a comment below, we're listening!
