My project has requirements which are defined as for example "XXX-23456" in their summary. I want to link the requirements to the "Test" work type. We are using Jira Xray to have the tests.
When I am present at the Test work type and click on + Linked work items, then I start typing XXX-23 but the query does not show any list for my requirements. I need to know the exact Jira key id to filter it. It is not possible to change the requirement summary because they are already in use and placed in another database.
Could you please help me how can I improve this filtering mechanism?
Good day welcome to Atlassian Community!
As you mentioned XXX-23456 is mentioned in summary which means it is not an issue key (workitem key).
To link work item to your Test use the key, which will generally start like projectkey-234.
In the below image TTMPFA-20 is the key.
Hi Akhand thanks for the quick reply!
Instead "Task 2" in your screenshot, we have "XXX-23456" in the summary of the requirements. These are assigned by another system and we are keeping the requirement's summary as "XXX-23456".
This summary(name?) is not possible to get in the query when I start typing it in the linked issue textbox.
We realized that if we don't have "-" in the summary and search for it in the linked issues, the query works and brings the corresponding work type.
I hope this is much clear now.
Kind regards,
Nurbanu

Are you trying to link requirement to Test or you are trying to filter requirements based on summary.
If it is just about linking as I mentioned try using workitem key and it should show that requirement

Thank you Akhand for quick reply!
Yes exactly what we are doing is linking the requirements to the tests and using the workitem key to link them. I just would like to highlight that if summary contains "-" the linking with summary is not possible. If the requirement summary does not have "-", it is possible to search the requirements by summary.
I believe this is a common problem in Jira. The "-" conflicts somehow with something in the queries for the linking.
In the company, the summary of the work items are meaningful us but unfortunately finding their jira workitem key is a big time consuming since we have more than 500 requirements for each component.
Is it feasible to have a bug fix about this problem?
