How do you link or map your xray tests to the stories or backlog items for a particular release?

I want to be able to map my tests or test set to a particular release scope story so this way I can see which test cases were executed against a particular backlog for a given release.

At high-level the process is the following (you can adapt it though):

  1. create a project release in Jira
  2. create stories and assign to that release (i.e., fix version)
  3. create tests for the related stories to cover them
  4. create a Test Plan and assign it to that release (it's a way to say that you're aiming to execute several tests on that release)
  5. create one or more Test Executions from that Test Plan; each Test Execution should also be assigned to that release
  6. report the results on each Test Execution

This way, Xray will know the tests you executed for each release; you can also track them on each Test Plan
