Introducing the Asana Connector by Exalate

At Exalate, we're always working to expand the tools you can connect with your Atlassian ecosystem. That's why we're announcing our new Asana Connector

This connector lets you sync work, tasks, and projects between Asana and your Jira instances, whether it's Jira Cloud, Jira Service Management, or on-premise deployments. It supports all Asana plans, including Enterprise and Enterprise+.

Let's check out how it works.

What is the Exalate Asana Connector?

The Asana Connector is an integration that bridges the collaboration gap between business teams working in Asana and technical teams using Jira.

It's built on Exalate's script-based architecture, giving you complete control over what gets synced and how.

The connector provides:

  • Comprehensive entity and field support. Users can synchronize tasks and projects with extensive field coverage, including summaries, descriptions, assignees, reporters, statuses, due dates, custom fields, attachments, comments, and labels. Rich text formatting is fully preserved, and parent-child task relationships sync correctly.
  • Real-time bidirectional synchronization. Changes made in either Asana or Jira get reflected on the other side based on your sync rules. This includes real-time one-way or two-way synchronization with full comment support.
  • Advanced flexibility with granular control. Unlike other solutions limited by rigid templates, Exalate's scripting engine and AI-assisted integration let you control which fields sync, when they sync, and how they're transformed, down to individual task-level details.

Why Use the Asana Connector?

If your business and client-facing teams love Asana while your engineering teams are embedded in Jira, someone usually becomes the "human API", spending hours manually copying updates between platforms.

The Asana Connector eliminates this friction by automatically synchronizing tasks, so nobody has to waste time on copy-paste work.

The benefits:

  • Enable department autonomy without fragmenting your organization. No forced migrations, no productivity loss from tool-switching. Product Managers and Project Leads will get real-time visibility into development progress without making engineers context-switch into Asana.
  • Maintain control over what gets shared. With the Asana Connector, each side controls what information goes out and what comes in. This ensures perfect alignment with your workflows, especially when working with external partners or agencies.
  • Streamline collaborations between teams. Exalate's independent sync setup makes collaboration with external parties simple and secure. Each side controls its own configuration, making it perfect for agency-client relationships or post-merger scenarios.
  • Replace brittle integrations with reliable synchronization. IT Operations and Integration Managers can replace brittle automation chains and homegrown scripts with a purpose-built integration that handles complex workflows, custom fields, and bidirectional sync reliably.

Real-World Use Cases

  • Cross-Department Synchronization: Marketing and product teams using Asana gain visibility into engineering work in Jira without having to understand the technical environment.
  • Agency-Client Collaboration: Professional services firms track client-facing work in Asana while development teams work seamlessly in Jira, maintaining appropriate visibility boundaries.
  • Post-Merger Integration: When acquired companies use Asana and parent companies standardize on Jira, Exalate creates a bridge during consolidation—or a permanent solution if tool autonomy makes sense.
  • IT Service Management Integration: Business teams manage projects in Asana, but when they encounter IT issues, those requests flow into Jira Service Management for proper tracking and resolution.
