Hi everyone,

I’m excited to introduce 3D Insights for Jira - my new dashboard gadget for bringing your Jira issues to life through interactive 3D visualization.

I built this app to make it easier (and more enjoyable) to spot patterns, outliers, and opportunities in your data - something that’s always been a challenge for me when working with long Jira lists or flat charts. With 3D Insights, you can explore your issues in a whole new way, experiment with filters, and get an instant feel for your project’s dynamics.

🧑‍💻 What is 3D Insights?

3D Insights is a Forge-powered gadget that you can add to your Jira dashboard. It lets you plot issues from any Jira filter in a 3D scatter plot, mapping your chosen fields to the X, Y, and Z axes. This makes it easy to visualize how different issues relate to each other across multiple dimensions.

✨ Key Features

• Interactive 3D Graph:
  Rotate, zoom, and explore your data with an intuitive, touch-friendly graph. Click any data point to see its issue details.

• Flexible Field Mapping:
  For most common Jira fields - like numbers, priorities, labels, components, and some custom fields - you can assign them to any axis. There’s a mapping dialog for converting non-numeric values (for example, mapping priorities or labels to numbers).

• Insights Lab & Statistics:
  The Insights Lab lets you filter your data live, experiment with histograms, and see how changes affect your view. I’ve also added a statistics panel for quick summaries and percentiles.

• Customizable Issue Panel:
  Drill into any issue right from the graph. Pick which fields to display and how they’re ordered.

• Export Options:
  Download your 3D chart as a PNG or SVG, with customizable filename patterns for easy organizing.

🖱️ How to Get Started

1. Add the gadget to your Jira dashboard (just search for “3D Insights”).

2. Choose a Jira filter with your issues.

3. Assign the fields you want to plot on each axis.

4. Save, and start exploring!

Tip: The Insights Lab and statistics panel are there to help you experiment and learn more about your data.

⚠️ What Should You Know?

• Field Support:
  Most standard fields and simple custom fields are supported for mapping and analysis. If you run into a field that doesn’t map well or produces unexpected results, please let me know!

• Data Size:
  3D Insights loads up to a few hundred issues at a time (depending on your filter and Jira’s API). For very large datasets, it’s best to filter first to keep things fast and readable.

• Accessibility:
  I’m working on improving keyboard support and alternative color schemes for accessibility - feedback is welcome.
