Group Your Timeline by Jira Labels (with Planyway)

We’re excited to introduce a new way to organize your work in Planyway for Jira: timeline grouping by labels.

With this update, you can group Jira issues on the timeline based on their labels, making it easier to bring related work together and understand how different initiatives are progressing.

Why group your timeline by labels?

Labels are often used in Jira to categorize issues by team, initiative, product area, work type, release, or another custom dimension.

Now, Planyway lets you use that existing structure directly on the timeline.

Grouping by labels can help you:

• See related issues together
• Track progress across initiatives
• Compare schedules between product areas or teams
• Identify overlaps, gaps, and scheduling conflicts
• Organize complex plans without changing your Jira hierarchy

For example, you might use labels such as:

• mobile
• backend
• marketing
• customer-request
• q3-launch

Once the timeline is grouped by labels, issues with the same label are displayed together, giving you a clearer view of how work is distributed across your plan.

How to group the timeline by labels

To use the new grouping option:

1. Open your timeline in Planyway.
2. Find the timeline grouping settings.
3. Select Labels.
4. Review your issues organized into label-based groups.

The timeline will update automatically, so you can start analyzing and adjusting your plan right away.

A clearer way to plan cross-functional work

This feature is especially useful for teams that manage work across multiple projects or use labels to connect issues that do not share the same epic, component, or project.

Instead of reviewing issues individually, you can now see the full schedule for each label in one place.
