🍻 Apptoberfest 2025 — Linked Issue Dependency Mapper

Overview

Linked Issue Dependency Mapper complements Jira Service Management & Jira by bringing dependency intelligence directly into your ITSM workflows. It helps teams see how incidents, problems, and change requests connect — turning linked issues into a clear, visual story of cause, impact, and resolution flow.

The Challenge

In complex IT environments, changes and incidents often ripple across multiple teams and projects. Jira already captures these relationships through issue links — but interpreting them can be tedious and time-consuming.

The Solution

Linked Issue Dependency Mapper transforms Jira’s native linked issues into an interactive visual map. It helps ITSM and service delivery teams instantly understand dependencies without leaving Jira.

  • Automatically discover and visualize all linked issues across projects.

  • Filter by link type (e.g., “blocks,” “is blocked by").

  • Click nodes to open issues directly within Jira.

Key Highlights

  • 🔗 Native Link Visualization: Powered entirely by Jira data.

  • 🧩 Cross-Project Clarity: Understand impact across ITSM workflows.

  • 📊 Risk Awareness: Instantly spot blockers and cascading dependencies.

  • 📤 Easy Sharing: Export snapshots for collaboration and governance.

  • 🛡️ Forge-Built: Runs 100% within Atlassian’s cloud — secure, fast, and compliant.

Why ITSM Teams Love It

Service teams use it to make faster, safer change decisions, with zero setup and full Jira alignment.

Result

With Linked Issue Dependency Mapper, Jira becomes the single pane of glass for understanding how work connects, helping ITSM teams boost visibility, reduce risk, and resolve incidents faster — all while staying completely within Jira Cloud.

This looks interesting. Only gap to be honest is on the visualisation for example I'd expect on dependencies to see something like the red/grey thread Jira Advanced Roadmaps does so I can see clearly the sequence of activities and the critical chain of dependencies.

The current way this displays it doesn't really prompt that quick insights/viz aid

Hi @Nicolae Victor Rusu,

Thank you for your feedback. Currently, the dependencies are displayed with a blue background, in contrast to the primary tickets, which have a white background. Additionally, the alignment of dependencies differs from that of the deliverables to make them more noticeable. The first level of dependency is indented one tab to the right relative to the ticket it is blocking, while the second level is shifted two tabs. Please refer to the attached screenshot for clarification.

Hope this helps!
