Hello, Loren here with the newest installment of Welcome Wednesday! October started last week, and I cannot help but think about the holiday season and how we all have special traditions when it comes to celebrating holidays. 🎉

Something that is so special to me is learning about other cultures and rituals of celebration. So, for this week’s Welcome Wednesday topic, I’d like to learn more about your favorite holiday tradition.

For me, it happens on Christmas Eve. My family does not celebrate Christmas, so every year, since I was a kid, we have gone out to eat Chinese food on Christmas Eve. I think it’s great how even though we don’t celebrate the actual holiday, we still spend time together as if it were a traditional holiday for us. I have so many fond memories of running into other friends and families that night, eating so much food, and going to bed knowing that even though we weren’t celebrating Christmas the next day, we were spending quality time together as a family.

So now you tell me, what’s your favorite holiday tradition? Does it involve food? Do you travel to a special location every year? Whatever it is, I look forward to hearing from you and learning more!

My favorite holiday is New Year, because there's no pressure and I can spend it however I want, which is watching the Rose Parade, reflecting on the previous year and the resolutions I made, writing an end of year journal post, and looking forward to the year ahead. We often have a puzzle or game going, or we bake, or paint. It's a relaxing and rejuvenating day!

Agreed. It's my favourite one as well. Besides the feeling of a fresh start, for me, it's also a type of holiday that gives you the freedom and peace of mind to choose where you want to go and who you want to spend with.

My favorite holiday is Thanksgiving. It is all about family, food and football.  I start to cook the turkey and stuffing early in the morning.  Our kids HS plays football Thanksgiving Day in the morning.  Our extended family comes over in the afternoon.  We eat, drink and watch NFL football the rest of the day.  In addition there is no commercialism.  Excluding Black Friday which is the next day.

@William Naughton - Thanksgiving is one of my favorites too! I don't watch football, but other members of my family do. I'm more interested in cooking and eating!

Christmas by a big lead! I come from Iceland where we have 13 jule lads (santa clauses). The first one comes to town Dec 12th. The kids put their shoe in their window. If they have been good that they, they get a little toy or treat. If not, they get a potato. Then they start leaving, one by one, on Christmas day and last one leave on January 6th, the last day of our Christmas holiday :)

@Kristján Geir Mathiesen - this is exactly why I wrote this post! What a fun and unique tradition. Did you ever get a potato growing up? LOL

Christmas is my favorite as well. In Iceland, Dec 24th is when we meet with family, have a really nice meal and open presents. That feeling of sitting down in front of a full plate of good food, with your loved ones is hard to beat!

But the yule lads are awesome and although they used to be quite sneaky according to the stories, they are much nicer to today and reward nice, well behaved kids with a little tried. I never got a potato myself and hope my kids never will either!
