Welcome Wednesday: Valentine's Candy!

Wednesday.gif

My wife and I picked up a few things for our kids to celebrate Valentine’s Day on Friday. While we were deciding what to get for the kids we started chatting about our favorite items from when we were younger. A number of those are still favorites for both of us today. My question for you all this week: What’s some of your favorite candy? (Bonus points for listing Valentine’s specific candies!)

Personally, I always loved “Conversation Hearts”, yea I know they taste like calk, but I still like them. My wife has always enjoyed “Cinnamon Hearts

Alright, it’s your turn! Let me know what you enjoy in the comments below.

Have a great rest of the week everyone!

My favorite as a child was also the conversation hearts, though the heart-shaped 5-piece Whitman's Sampler was a close second.

Every holiday now needs a Reese's shaped candy... :-D

My kiddos will be getting some Nerds gummy clusters from us this week. We decided to splurge on Lego botanicals sets for them, too...we never do gifts or much other than a little candy, so this is not normal. We decided to give them to the kiddos early since they are home for a snow day today.

Today, salted black licorice is at the fore. For Valentine's season, as a kid, the hearts were nice for their messaging value, but less so for their actual candy-ness.

I love chocolate roses and chocolate covered strawberries (does that count as candy even though?) Happy valentines everyone :)

I always had a soft spot for Parma Violets which everyone else seemed to reject because they taste like perfume, but nowadays I can't go past Whittakers chocolate

In Bulgaria, Valentine's celebrations have become very popular in the past 5-10 years, so we haven't had many things associated with this holiday before.

However, some very traditional Bulgarian candies are called "violets" and have existed... forever.

They have the smell and taste of the sweet violet flower, and they are one of the fastest ways to go back to the memory lane :)

Valentine specific would be Reese's heart shaped peanut butter cups. Then the cinnamon candies and then Conversation hearts.

Our tradition is that I always get my wife York Peppermint Patties. But she snags the Conversation Hearts as soon as the hit the stores.

I don't know how many of you are familiar with Baci Perugina chocolates. Italy's "kisses" chocolates that look a bit like Ferrero Rocher. each piece comes with a piece of paper with inspiration written on them (in english, french, and italian). now owned by Nestle, they're available year-round but they'd always be great as valentine's day treats.

one other candy or confection that I love that needs no occasion are traditionally made nougat/turron/torrone. while I'm not really a sweet-tooth, there's a lot of traditional confections or treats from around the world that I appreciate (over factory-made candies) like those from japan, china, india, turkey, france, italy, and even from the philippines where I'm from.
