Troubleshooting tips for Community Users

I’ve been a part of this community for a while, and there are a few things that I've learned that have helped me immensely here.  I figured I’d share them hoping they would help you too.

SEARCHING FOR ANSWERS

  1. Take advantage of the search feature at the top of the screen.  I've found many articles related to my issue that have saved me from having to ask the question again.
  2. Know whether you are using Atlassian Server/Data Center or Cloud software. There are features in Cloud that aren't available in Server, and vice versa. Many of the Knowledge Base articles will differentiate between the two, and Atlassian’s Jira site has their projects broken out by Server/Data Center vs Cloud.
  3. Use your browser's search to search for your issue.  Not only does that search the community, but also searches Atlassian's Knowledge Base for the various products.
  4. Atlassian has its own Jira page (jira.atlassian.com).  Especially if you're on the Cloud, there's a good possibility someone else has already ran across your issue.  I usually search by project and then add keywords with the "text ~ " parameter in my JQL.
  5. If you do find anything on Atlassian’s Jira site, make sure to vote for and watch it. Voting on issues is important as Atlassian uses that information when determining what to work on.

TROUBLESHOOTING ISSUES

  1. Can you test the issue on another PC, or with another browser?
  2. Is the issue only happening to your account, or do others have the same experience.
  3. Can you document steps to recreate the issue?
  4. Does the issue only happen under certain circumstances?

It can help the community by including this information in your post.

@Bill Sheboy put together a great article on Automations and Automation Troubleshooting.  In addition to this information, you can get more information here:

Hopefully having this information can help speed up your resolution.
