Throwback Thursday: what was your first RC toy? #TBT

It's Thursday!

I bought these two bad boys just before Christmas for us family to race and play with. We had some real good fun with them. One of them came with tiny traffic cones so we setup a little track and raced. One of the car came with 2 sets of tires: rubber and hard plastic. Super fun!

These aren´t the first RC I´ve had. I need to try to find a picture of my first RC car I go. But sooooo, what was your first remote control toy ever?
Let’s make it a great Thursday!

Not sure that I ever had a remote control toy. Maybe a train set was the closest I got.

Just like @John Funk our family did not believe much in RC style toys. I should say, my parents didn't. Me and my brothers sure did.

But the one exception was our Lionel HO Train Set. It was not really remote controlled since the controller was attached to the track by leads, but it was a special ty for all of us. We would get new pieces each year for Channukah and it would be assembled in the basement for 2 months from mid-November. As we got older, accumulated more parts, and (in some cases) more intelligence, the layouts became more elaborate.

A few years back I tried to claim it from my parent's house but my mother wouldn't let me take it back to my home - she said it really belonged to my older brother!

Do slotless race car tracks count?

1993 UNUSED TYCO TCR Slotless Slot Car Total Control RACE SET 20ft + 3 ...

I thought it was cool that we could actually change lanes and it wasn't stuck in the slot the entire time.

I've never had a RC toy, I'm pretty sure I've bought a couple for my nephews over the years, though.

The closest I got was a car for my Barbies, my shoes.

Hmm, I had a few but didn't play with them that much. I was curious about vintage Hot Wheels, though, and found an article by The Gamer that said the rarest "Hot Wheels vehicle is the 1969 Prototype Rear-Loading Volkswagen Beach Bomb in Spectraflame Hot Pink ... [It] is the holy grail for collectors, holding the title of the most valuable Hot Wheels ever made. Only two prototypes exist, making them incredibly hard to find." Interesting!

Would you ever call a TV a toy?  If you did, I am glad when this device came out, because that meant that my days as the remote were coming to an end.

The Development of Television timeline | Timetoast timelines

Now granted, it could only turn the TV On/Off, lower the volume, and scan through all of the channels in order, (Yeah, if you wanted to raise the volume, you had to turn the TV Off, then On, and it would start at the default volume) But hey, that was way better than 'hey, go change the channel' or 'turn it down'

Eventually, the individual channel numbers showed up and you could actually raise the volume too.

If TV's don't count, I don't remember any remote controlled toys until we bought remote control stuff for my kids.

Like @Dan Breyen, I think my first was slot track racers.  However, my favorite was at my first job when I worked in customer support.  Later at night, things weren't always busy and a few of us bought some remote/computer controlled foam missile launchers!

I don't remember any of my own, but I remember my brother had some cars. My 10 year old has a whole collection from Christmas last year - they're pretty fun! I think my dog loves them most of all. 🤪

I don't remember the very first one I had, but I recently built an RC car from scratch. Was a tonne of fun. I have it on a live stream somewhere... twitch.tv/MishManners

I don't remember that I had an RC toy in my childhood, but I definitely remember how I bought one for my friend's son for his birthday, it was a red car :)
