Throwback Thursday: Favorite comfort blanket? #TBT

It's Thursday!
giphy
When one of our daughters was young, she used to take the corner of her pillow case and rub it around her eyes and ears when she was tired and wanted to fall asleep. Sometimes she would even, ever so slightly, stick the very corner of her pillow case in her eye (as in eyeball).

Soooo, what was your favorite comfort blanket or something like that back in the day?
Let’s make it a great Thursday!

@Kristján Geir Mathiesen when I was a child I had a blue blanket knitted by my gran, I only vaguely remember it, but it's in lots of photos

When my family would go visit friends at their cabin, we would always fight over who got the butterfly quilt.  Curling up under that quilt on a crisp evening reading a book was always one of the takeaways from that cabin experience.

It's still there, and I look for it practically every time I'm there for a visit.

That’s such a sweet memory!

Our son had a similar habit with his light blue blanket. He would rub it with his hand when he was ready to sleep. It’s those little rituals that make childhood so special. 😊

Such a lovely memory!

When I was a kid, I had this funny habit of carrying a battery around everywhere. Looking back, I like to joke that I was just keeping myself ‘powered up’ ⚡️

Hope you’re having a great Thursday, KGM!

I don't remember any specific blanky from my childhood, but I've got a really fuzzy one from McDonald's that I love now. It's so cozy it almost feels like being wrapped in a blanket of Big Macs! 😂🍔🍔

I can remember being 3 years old and not able to fall asleep, so I am pretty sure I never had a comfort item as a child. In fact, there are still many nights that I wish I had such a thing.

My oldest daughter had a little blankie she carried with her everywhere. It was actually the size of a rag, but soft blanket material. Now, we all fight over our favorite living room throw blanket. ;)

Trying to wrap my head around being wrapped in a blanket of "Two all beef patties, special sauce, lettuce, cheese, pickles, onions, on a sesame seed bun".  Thanks @Tomislav Tobijas _Koios_

My mother-in-law made little blanket substitutes that were about 12" by 30cm that you could use to substitute for a full blown blanket.  It made travelling easier as you didn't need the full blanket for the kids.

My favorite blankie wasn't actually mine, it was my littlest sister's blankie. It was about a 1-yard or 1-meter squared in size, yellow with a pattern on it, and she would hold one corner up to her cheek while dragging the rest of it around, then come up to you and lightly rub the back of your hand with the corner she was holding. That was her "love". Haa, I'd forgotten about that til just now -- thank you @Kristján Geir Mathiesen!

Kitty. I slept with this decrepit stuffed animal well into my 20s. I cannot sleep if I don't have something tucked under firmly against my chin. I still have her. She was once stark white, fluffy, and had plastic whiskers. She and I have weathered several moves and years together. She turned 38 this year.

EDITS FOR CLARITY: Yes, I had blankets. I rarely used them b/c I get warm easy. So, Kitty it was.

I kind of used an old torn blanket :D ...not that I can afford another, it's just comfortable.

When I was a child I had a pale blue blanket, with faint stars scattered across it. My parents said it came as a gift when I was born, but to me, it always felt like it had been there forever, stitched into the memories of every every bedtime story and every night spent staring out my window, counting stars or reading fairy tales with lantern under that blanket :). When thunderstorms rattled the house, I’d crawl under it, pressing it tightly over my ears, waiting for the storm to pass.

As I grew older, the blanket became more of a memory. One day, it disappeared into a box in the attic, tucked away alongside other fragments of my childhood. But sometimes, when life feels a little too grown-up, I think about that pale blanket and how it taught me to feel safe, even when the world seemed big and scary.

In some ways, it’s still with me—a quiet reminder that even the smallest things can make the biggest difference.

And that blanket is always a sweet memory of my safe parents' home and a childhood without any problems except summer thunderstorm :)

Hello everyone

I didn't have a blanket, my comfort object was actually a stuffed animal that was half rabbit and half donkey, which I still have today and which coincidentally was also my daughter's toy for many years. Now it is again very well kept, waiting to be the comfort of another child.

Regards

I had a white fluffy blankie that had a silky trim that I rubbed to go to sleep.  Then Dad decided it was time for me to outgrow the blankie so he tossed it.  😭  I loved that blankie.  I MISS that blankie!  And this is how separation anxiety begins...haha

Well, that's been many, many, many years ago - but I seem to remember a Snoopy stuffed animal. It was more flat and a profile view. The stuffing of the neck of the animal got worn down so from me carrying it in the crook of my elbow that the head would flop over.

@Kristján Geir Mathiesen

In my childhood days, there were no selling of blankets in the market, all are made by my grany or mother -- even they used to make the comforter with old sarees or old bedsheets which were so smooth, spungy and warm.

but now we get lot of varities of comforters/blankets in market -- recently my wife brought from an handloom exhibition, totally prepared by hands.

I had a "security" blanket that I always had with me. I'm not sure what color it was originally; maybe blue or gray.

And I still have it folded up in my blanket chest.

For those familiar with the U.S. children's program Sesame Street, Mr. Snuffleupagus was my favorite character. I would roll up my blanket and hold it to the end of my nose (like his trunk) and waddle around the house humming the theme they would play for that character. I even referred to my blanket as Snuffy

Oh @Trudy Claspill, you brought back a memory for me. When my oldest niece was small, Snuffy was her favorite Sesame Street character too.

I never had or just don't remember anything like that for myself.  One of my siblings did have a blanket that he carried around until he was around 4 or 5.
