Throwback Thursday: Embarrassingly retro styles & trends you used to love? #TBT

Congratulation, iiiiiit's Thursday!
giphy
When I was a teenager, in the 80's, I really dove into the 80's style. I did the sweat headband, leg warmers (I seem to remember!), and the bright colors :) I had this baseball hat that was bright pink, yellow, light bright blue and the whole 9 yards. I need to find some pictures...

So, what embarrassingly retro styles & trends did you used to love?
Let’s make it a great Thursday!

The 80s were truly spectacular even if, after some time, I think there were at least questionable fashions. I loved my denim jackets, my timberland shoes and I loved Jordan and the NBA.
That was my style :

Ugh.

I was into heavy metal in the mid 80's; the hair bands and glam rock was great when the parents were around, but when they were gone it was usually Anthrax, Dio, or Danzig blaring out of my boom box.

At the start of my sophomore year in a Catholic high school I had a great mullet that, unfortunately, was past the color of my shirt so after a detention or two my parents grounded me until I had it cut. My teenage brain thought it would be gnarly to leave an 8 inch rat tail.  There were other kids that had them and the teachers didn't complain, so I figured it would be fine. I'm sure it looked terrible on the skinny neck of a 4 foot 5 inch 90lb geek that everyone picked on.

Note here that that high school was horrible, I was bullied relentlessly and the teachers did nothing about it and my parents pulled me out after 10th grade.

Anyway, I thought the tail was awesome and for once I didn't care what anybody else thought.

After about a week with the tail one of the worst of the bullies told me on the buss that I'd better cut it off or he'd "yank it out of my skull." I gave him some choice words in response and the next day while I was walking down the hall he came up behind me and yanked it out of my skull.

Since then I've always kept my hair nice, neat, and mainstream.

Fanny pack. Fashionable. Functional. Forever.

These days they are waist/hip packs.

They'll always be around in one form or another.

This was a winning ensemble from the late 80's/early 90's for me. I used to basically dress like a Blockbuster video employee (my shirts did not have the Blockbuster logo) with a pair of black Timberlands and Black Woven Belt (of course with the long tail tied)

I used to get stopped in the store and asked by other customers if I could help them. 🙄

As an adult who basically only wears white button downs, black pants and loafers i still get stopped in stores and asked if I am an associate. Maybe I missed my calling in retail?

Ryan Reynolds ALMOST pulls off the luck (sans the tie)

I was truly boring, the only trend I followed was wearing funny t-shirts like this one:

EOD If You See Me Running... T-shirt
Edit: I still wear funny t-shirts, but now they're Atlassian t-shirts 😁

tI don't know if I loved them, but for sure I was following the trend back then. So without any sign of embarrassment I used to wear the following products (some images I took from previous posters):

Funny pack. Super useful and handy to store....eerr... nothing of importance since at the end of 80's I was about 11 yo.

Fly jackets, or at least that's what we called them in Greece. That orange color still gets my nerves!

Wehrmacht boots: Awful heavy for my feet, but durable as hell. Loved them and still miss them, although I'm not sure I could wear them know and replace my comfy sneakers.

Pump (?) shoes! Yup I could jump higher while playing basketball! #not_really

@Alex Koxaras _Relational_ In the US we had similar styles...either Members Only jackets or Bomber jackets, Doc Martins, and Converse "Chuck Taylor's," depending on who you hung out with.

Fanny packs were everywhere, except in high schools.. At least in my part of the country wearing a fanny pack to school would get you laughed at at least, or beat up and shoved into a locker for some.

@Summer Hogan YES! The jean jacket and rolled up pants. I totally forgot about that.

And @Alex Koxaras _Relational_ I always wanted one of those green fly jackets! So cool... Actually, I still want one :) But has to be the same as back in the 80's. I've found some but they feel like "cheap" knock off...

@Scott Theus I purchased my first pair of Converse since 1988 couple of years ago :) Sweet memories...
