Throwback Thursday: Do you have a tree house memory? #TBT

It's Thursday!

Once upon a time, we lived in a duplex in Iceland. Our yard had a few fair sized trees (especially by Icelandic standards) and my kids were small. I decided to make them a tree house.

My dad had a business long time ago importing office furniture. They came in crates which we would carefully take a part and then use the wood for all kinds of things.

My brothers still had some of that wood and I used it for the tree house. We painted it black, same color as our own house.

Our kids just LOVED playing in it!

Soooo, do you have a fun tree house memory?
Let’s make it a great Thursday!

That looks awesome @Kristján Geir Mathiesen!  I unfortunately do not have a tree house memory.  Or rather, my only memory is that I always wanted one, but sadly never had one.

Maybe one day I'll move to a house that either has one or a tree that is capable of supporting one.

Unfortunately, I never had a tree house, so no memories about it either.

I'm sure I would have fallen out of it at some point.

I cannot remember anyone having a tree house when I was growing up. They were around, just not in my surrounding area.

We did build our fair share of "forts" in those days. Quite often they were short lived and pillaged to build the next better one. There was one we built which we dug a shallow pit (2 - 3 feet deep) and covered it with tree limbs, twigs, leaves, dirt, and grasses. We thought it was great, until the first heavy rain when the local creek flooded and filled it with the most wretched smelling foulest water imaginable. I can still remember its horrific assault on my nose.

Along with the forts, time was spent building rafts to float down the creek for an adventure. We did not understand the theory of water displacement and its lift capabilities or the principles of basic raft building at the time and no rafting expedition was ever successful (most likely would have never been successful as the creek was barely six inches deep).

So, not a tree house, but a fair amount of building and ingenuity for a bunch of school kids.

I remember only wood houses for children in playground, not in tree, but it is some kind of tree house.

I remember every working day, when I backed home from primary school I went to this house for a moment. It was realy nice place for me and I realy like it. It was on the top of small and green hill. Wood was impregnated and had brown color. House was long like rectangle and had sloping roof.

I also never had a treehouse @Kristján Geir Mathiesen. It was probably because the military did not allow them on their bases. But my cousin did have a play house that was not in a tree, but just on the ground that my uncle made. We loved playing in that house! I also had a Barbie Dreamhouse. Does that count?

So I didn't have a tree house as a kid, but a few years ago we stayed at an AirBNB near Plymouth MN that had a real tree house in the back yard.

So awesome! No tree house memories for me, but I remember always wishing for one after reading stories/books with them. My dad did build us a playhouse with a real window and real shingles that were extra or something from a project. That was pretty amazing!

Thank you, guys!

So fun to read your comments. I didn't either have a tree house growing up but like many of you, I read about them or saw them in movies and dreamed of having one. Alas, I ended up building one and live vicariously through my kids :)

No treehouse memory, but I used to have a rambutan tree which I used to climb up frequently, pluck the fruits and swing like Tarzan from it. :-)

Does a fort above a shed next to a tree count?  That's as close as we got to a tree house.  My dad built his shed, and then put a room above it with a window and just enough for a mattress and your stuff.  We spent many a night out there, climbing up the ladder and hanging out as a kid.
