Atlassian Community Round-up: November 2024

Hello Everyone!

I wanted to try something a little different this month. I feel like this round up has been getting a little lengthy. I still think this a very valuable but I want to bring it back down to being more of an appetizer. From major events, to product announcements, to amazing people providing great tips & best practices to help the Community, I guarantee there is something here for everyone. Let’s get started!

Community Announcements:

There is always something happening in the community whether it’s a new kudos contest or an upcoming event, I want to make sure you don’t miss out on everything that is going on!

• First up, there is a new rank/lozenge you will see on people’s profiles going forward. Wanna reach this rank yourself? Write some great content that earns you five likes and it’s all yours!

• If you are constantly referring to the REST API documentation like I am, please note that the REST API docs for Crowd are moving to Atlassian’s Developer Site. This was done as they have upgraded the docs to OpenAPI 3.0 which also allows you to download their swagger.json file from there.

Member Article Highlights:

As always, there are a TON of amazing articles written by many of your fellow community members. This is just a small sample of all the great content you don’t want to miss out on!

• Kicking things off, as a remote work advocate myself, this “quick tips“ guide by @Patricia Modispacher _appanvil_ really resonated with me. In addition, there are a number of great additions that have been added in the comments.

• Next, @Sushant Verma has written a great piece sharing some best practices for managing epics and stories in an agile environment. I know I’m always looking to learn how others manage their work to see what I can do to improve my own practices. You might learn something too.

• This is a hot topic for me personally but @John Funk does a great job of pulling back the curtain of everything you should know before making a commitment to one project style or the other. I’d also like to point out that John has a number of other wonderful articles that answer other questions like this, go check them out!

• How many times do you come to the community hoping to get a quick answer to your question you can’t find anywhere else?  @Dan Breyen has put together some amazing tips to help you find that answer you are looking for faster. Be sure to read through these as well as some additions from other fellow members in the comments. Shoutout to @Bill Sheboy & @Barbara Szczesniak!
  Troubleshooting tips for Community Users

• When I first read this title, I though it was another announcement from Atlassian. Then, as I started diving into it I quickly realized that @Jana Bohackova has written a wonderful piece about their own experiences with the virtual agent. This goes into great detail about how and why they have configured the virtual agent in a specific way and the benefits they have seen as a result. This makes me want to dive into the virtual agent myself!

Product Updates:

Want to keep up to date on all the cool things Atlassian has announced about their products? Be sure to read through these, then go check out all the others for your favorite product!

• One thing that has always bugged me after completing a Cloud migration are the few things that Server/DC could do better that Cloud. Atlassian has been making great strides to reduce that list and here’s another notch in their belt. If you know what Extended Project Admin rights allow your project admins to be able to do, I know you are just as excited to be able to do this again as I am!

• Speaking of improvements to Jira, the new Development hub is in beta and if the screenshots indicate what to expect, I’m excited to see it in action!

• Previously, Atlassian introduced a News Board Carousel macro, now you can filter the items that are displayed there to find what you are looking for faster.

• Who likes because about to do work faster? I know I do and with this update, admins can now bulk select up to 1000 portal-only accounts to delete for clean up purposes or to migrate to Atlassian accounts as your business changes and grows.

• Finally, Confluence Databases has some new functions to help you with number field calculations. Still haven’t checked out Confluence Databases? Now might be the right time!
