Here's a story for all you who have never heard it:
Ten years ago this year 19 members of the Granite Mountain Hotshots perished in the Yarnell Hill Fire. The Granite Mountain hotshots were a wildland firefighting crew based in Prescott, Arizona and on June 30th, 2023 19 of the 20 crewmembers lost their lives. There is an Alligator Juniper tree in the Yarnell Hill forest that the hotshots saved before they perished. This Alligator Juniper is not only a memorial site for the hotshots, but also the largest of its species in the world! Some also say that this tree is the state's oldest living icon. The age of the tree differs between local folklore and scientific research. This is the tree!
Wow, what a moving story.
Thank you for sharing. I had no idea.
Anybody here recognizing this one :-)?
As a Florida girl, I have always associated Crepe Myrtles with Summer. The colorful blooms stick around all season and at the end of the season the tree is cut back to the stump to allow it to regrow back to its full glory the next year. It is a wonderful tree for someone with ADHD because of how fast it grows. There is always new growth happening daily so you can watch it and keep up with it without growing bored. lol
And now for 10 pictures of trees.
A Tree Should Be planted for this.
