Friday Fun - Vegas Vibes

It's finally arrived (almost). Atlassian Team '23 will be taking place in the City of Lights this coming week. Las Vegas is an iconic city, portrayed in so many books, movies, TV shows, plays and songs. Yet it is less than 100 years old.

There are so many sights and sounds that will conjure up thoughts of Las Vegas.

The famous Vegas skyline - ever changing and evolving as the massive hotels are built, demolished, redesigned and relaunched. Even the Empire has started construction on the third death star!

And even though the nickname is the City of Lights, many people make it to Las Vegas but never see the outside of a hotel, conference center or casino.

With all of the hype around Team '23, I have a lot of Vegas on my mind. But in this case, I don't think it will be a case of What Happens in Vegas Stays in Vegas - the content will be out of this world!

When I hear Las Vegas, the first image that comes to mind is the iconic scene from The Godfather II where Michael Corleone meets with Moe Greene and Fredo Corleone tries to defend Moe against the family. It's a pivotal moment in the entire saga.

@Andy Gladstone - when I think of Vegas, I think of nightlife and food.

While I don't go out as much for nightlife, I still search for coffee and bites at all hours. Two highlights:

🥟 The dim sum options in Vegas have gotten better and better in the last 10 years - there's a Din Tai Fung location there! (on-Strip, at Aria)
🍜 Until COVID hit, there was a 24-hour pho spot! It's still open, but closes for maybe 2-3 hours during the super early hours: Pho Kim Long (off-Strip, at 4029 Spring Mountain Rd.)

This will be my first time in Vegas, so right now everything I know comes from movies. Honestly, this is what I think of when I think of Las Vegas 😁

It's amazing how we often forget that certain movies and shows were filmed in unexpected locations. For instance, did you know that Miss Congeniality 2, starring Sandra Bullock, was actually filmed in the Venetian?

Oddly, that is one that I know has been on so many channels, but I have never seen. I just think I have a mental block where I want Sandra Bullock to remain the girl from Speed for me forever.

I understand the struggle. For me, it's when Sandra speaks fluent German.
Looking at this, I couldn't stop laughing while Sandra schooled him in German, but poor Jimmy had no clue what was going on. And you won't learn THIS from me. 😂

I'm with @Dan Breyen on this one and it is definitely the residencies (concerts) and the shows. I have seen so many residencies in Las Vegas I could not even count them including Celine Dion, Elton John, Wayne Newton, Rod Stewart, Sting, and most recently Maroon5 and Tesla! I've also seen almost all the Cirque du Soleil's and Blue Man Group many times.

I'll miss you all in Vegas since I can no longer attend, but have some fun for me and I'll see you next year for sure!

Yes @Andy Gladstone - I've been to Vegas probably 40-50 times in my life and I lived there when I was a teenager when my father was stationed at Nellis AFB.

@Monique vdB - sorry you could not attend either. I had to cancel at the last minute due to a family issue so I can relate! I'm glad I'm not the only one!

Circus Circus was one of the first places I visited in my many trips while I was living in Southern California.

I've experienced Fremont Street where gambling first began, and let me tell you, it was a wild ride. Live music, dancing, impersonators, and flashy lights are everywhere. And let's not forget the thrill of watching Slotzilla Ziplines fly above you – a true Las Vegas experience.

I was one of those people who didn't make it out of the resort last year. But what a buzz it was and looking forward to this edition so much! Seems the death star has come quite a long way since last year. This was the view I had from my room 12 months ago:
