Happy Friday, friends! You’ve made it to the end of the week! 🎉
Here in Wisconsin, we’ve had some especially foggy, cloudy, and rainy days this week which inspired today’s topic: What are your favorite things to do on a rainy day?
When I’m stuck inside while it’s showering outside, I find that it’s the perfect time to do some focused learning. 📚 Whether it’s an online course, reading some articles or books, or just watching Youtube videos, rainy days create an awesome environment for me to learn (as long as my home still has power).
Maybe it’s something about being confined to a single space or hearing the constant, calming patter of raindrops against my window that just makes me want to hunker down and learn something new.
If I’m not working on continuing education, I’ve found that rainy days are also prime opportunities for me to get some cleaning and organizing done.
I think this is true for me for the same reasons I find rain showers conducive to studying/learning. The rain outside just seems to help me narrow my attention toward a singular focal point inside.
How about you? What do you like to do on a rainy day?
Have a great weekend! 😊
@Susan Waldrip I can understand that! I've definitely had my fair share of TV show binges as well haha.
Reading or learning definitely tops my list, too! As a family, we tend to all hunker down and watch a movie at home.
If we're feeling too cooped up, there are some unique places to check out like an indoor mini golf spot or any of the museums here in Milwaukee!
@Amanda Barber I love family movie nights!!
In the Summer and early Fall I spend rainy days on the river fishing. The cool weather gets the fish actively feeding. You get wet but it is worth it.
@Brant Schroeder nice! What's your most common catch in your area? Trout?
With a steady rain, I like to rewatch movies I've seen many times. With a thunderstorm, I like to sit out on the porch and experience it. ⛈️
@Barbara Szczesniak nothing quite like quietly experiencing a thunderstorm form somewhere safe.
I have a dog with a very strict preference for walking hours, and usually, on a rainy day, he wants to go out right in the middle of heavy showers (and he deeply regrets it after).
But if I am not pressured to be out in the rain, that's my best working time. I can't imagine anything more productive than a rainy day, fresh air coming from the window, hot coffee on the desk and loads of work to be done :)
@Teodora V _Fun Inc_ haha that's hilarious about your dog.
Your description of your productive setup almost makes me wish it was raining right now! Totally agree!
I like to read on rainy days. Unfortunately, there aren't many rainy days in Dubai, so I am way behind on my reading! haha
Haha @John Funk you'll have to put on a meditative rain shower looping video on Youtube to simulate the experience.
Hi
When it rains, what I love is walking in the rain, going to play frontenis, I love being in the rain and when I can't, being at home on the couch watching a good series would be my plan "b", but if I can I go out to enjoy the rain.
Regards
@Vronik nice! That sounds fun!
I like to work in my barn on rainy days. The rain hitting the metal roof makes for a loud day, but it gives me an excuse to turn up the radio.
@Shawn Doyle - ReleaseTEAM awesome! Rainy days are great for tinkering with some tunes on in the background!
Read, watch movies or binge-watch a new series in my queue, make soup (tortilla soup and butternut squash are my faves), catch up on some sleep, clean.... I'm a homebody so staying home is heaven for me. 😊
@Laurie Sciutti now I'm craving butternut squash soup! Yum!
But when I find myself stuck at home because of rain, I embrace the moment. I soak in the rhythm of the rain, letting it awaken my inner artist. I’ll put on some mellow tunes, brew a warm cup of tea, and settle into my cozy corner. Sometimes, I stare out the window, watching the raindrops dance until they finally retreat. I might even attempt to sketch the rain's journey—or, in a twist of creativity, I’ll try to see if I can draw a raindrop without it looking like a potato. And when boredom strikes, I challenge myself to count how many raindrops hit the same spot on the window—because why not?
@Sanam Malleswari sounds quite magical!
Sounds like a great day to curl up with a minimum amount of lights on. Have a cup of coffee close, and dig into a good book. And if the eyes start to close. You're all set for a little nap.
However, this AM, while it was raining, my preference was to just roll over and go back to sleep. (But I'm typing this, so we know how that turned out...)
That does sound quite relaxing, @Dan Breyen ! But bummer you weren't able to get back to sleep!
Here in AZ during the Summer months we get monsoons and they are so exciting to watch so that's what I usually do. Otherwise, I watch educational Youtube videos or a movie. I love having my shades open so I can watch the rain. A couple of weeks ago up in northern AZ where I have a condo and go to escape the heat, I pulled over on the side of the road and watched a monsoon rolling in and took these pics. It was so fun to watch!
Love these photos, so dramatic and cool!
Wow, amazing photos, @Summer Hogan. There's definitely something energizing about watching storms roll through.
We have a couch in front of our large front window in our living room. When it's raining (and I'm not wat work in my home office) I love to sit on the couch with a warm blanket, mug of coffee and a book. Usually my kids will join me and we'll switch between reading and watching the raindrops.
@Andy Gladstone love it. Sounds like a great family tradition.
I was planning to do running today, but instead I ended up in my bed watching How I met your Mother.
A lovely gentle rain is appreciated, as long as it's not Monday.
Because "Rainy days and Mondays always get me down". (Thanks Karen Carpenter).
Last night's rainy evening involved a nice dinner, then watching TV by the fire. Very relaxing. I always like the sound of rain hitting the roof.
