Lines in Description suddenly double spaced

On my Mac Book, entering "Return" on a line in the Description box suddenly left a double space to the next line.

On my Windows PC and my iPhone app, the lines seem to remain single spaced.

Does anyone know why?

HI, Ive used trello in the past, but on this new download of it, I TOO have the double line problem, what a pain, Ive not had great luck with help desk- this is a glitch, can it be fixed through an update?- anyone?- I don't want to have use, Shift-Enter, every time I want a single line (return) I type ALOT on these board...

Sadly, NOT a glitch. I wish! In my response on Feb 7th below, I pasted in an email from an Atlassian support representative that explains why this is happening. She explained how you can temporarily turn the automatic double-space off by using the "old" editor. But she made it clear this is temporary. Unless they change their minds, the "new" editor requiring you to SHIFT-ENTER instead of ENTER to get a single-spaced line will become the permanent method. It's a pain. Good luck.

Thank you, welp thats a bummer...

I do not like the automatic double spacing.  That was a bad idea and I hope Trello changes it back to standard

I'm still getting doubled space in the description ... Help, please.

This is not working on my Macbook

That must be annoying. I don't have an Apple device. Hopefully someone who does can respond. If not, support responded to my help request very quickly, so it might be worth your while to put in a ticket.

Hi Teik, welcome to the community! I tried here on both platforms using Mac and I did not manage to reproduce this issue. Can you please specify if: you were using the browser or the App and if the issue still happening on your end?

I'm on Windows and I'm getting double spaces too.  It's fine in the activity box.

There doesn't appear to be any way to alter this either - bullet points bring the spacing closer together, and as soon as you delete a bullet it returns to double spacing.

It's a bit annoying tbh

Interesting. Have you already tried to use shift + enter? It should create just one single space with that command.

That worked - thanks for the tip!

This just started happening to me today. All my old cards are fine, the descriptions are single-spaced, even if I edit and save them. The new cards all have the description double-spaced. It does not help to enter lines with shift+enter (plus quite frankly I'd go mad if I had to do that every single time I want to move to a new line.) Any idea how to solve this?

The "Markup" information appeared in my Description box for the first time today, so I'm betting this is some new bug. But if anyone found a solution that works without shift-enter, I'd love the workaround.

Unless you type with just one finger, I'm not sure I see what the problem is.  It's not great, agreed, but then (to me) pressing one additional button is not a massive issue

Sorry, Andy, your response doesn't make much sense to me. I am typing several lines of names and other text in my Description box. I suddenly can't use a single keystroke (ENTER) to create a new single-spaced line anymore, but that's not a big deal? Normally, ENTER creates a single-spaced line. ENTER-ENTER, a double-spaced line. In Word. In Outlook. In fact, in every other program I've ever used (except Wordpress, which also sucks). Up until yesterday, ENTER created a single-spaced line in Trello, and has for the two years I've used it. You must not do much typing. I was a transcriptionist and type 80 WPM. Not with one finger.

From the multiple complaints about this I see on the board over the years, I'm really hoping it's a Trello glitch.

Well, I put in a ticket and got a very quick response (thank you, Alisson). The news is not good.  :(

Hello, kmcclivereed!

Thank you for reaching out to us and I am sorry to hear that this caused you some frustration.

I can see that you are using our new editor, and as a default, it comes with double space when you go to a new line. The editor that you're used to comes with a single space for each new line. With the new editor, you can still create a single space by pressing shift + enter instead of just enter.

If you want to revert back to the editor that you're used to, for a very limited time period, you can turn this off by clicking on the “Share feedback” link just below the editor and then clicking “Turn off”.

However, please be aware that in the coming months, we are permanently going to this new editor experience for all users so we do appreciate any feedback before then. You can click the “Share feedback" blue button to fill up the survey on the experience you shared with us regarding this new editor, and this can include the changes in the spacing options!

I hope this helps, but please let me know how it goes and if there's anything else I can assist you with. Looking forward to hearing from you!

Kind Regards,
Alisson

I do not like the double space either.

I keep a lot of information in the description section and it doesn't need double spacing

And makes the card too big.

Just typing this comment in double spacing to show how annoying an unnecessary.

How about changing the editor?

This is one of the most annoying things now with Trello. This needs to be addressed. Why wouldn't it be single spaced and if you want double space then you can just hit enter twice.

I still don't see it as a massive issue, and I compile reports every day, and definitely with more than one finger (I also use my thumb for the space bar, imagine that!!).

Anyway, I have found that ClickUp is far more functional and more suited to my needs now, so no need to use Trello any more.

They have single spacing, which is a bonus!
