Lack of Custom Field Customization between Cards

I am one day in on a 14 day trial and its been a roller coaster ride.  I went from so excited to about the custom fields and automating them to extremely disappointed to find out that there is no way to have different custom fields appear on different cards within the same board.  Even more disappointed to see that this has been an ongoing issue with multiple requests to fix.

I did try the amazing fields power up but this appears to hamper the automation aspect of what I am trying to do.

PLEASE FIX!  Since you can copy cards or create templates, wouldn't it make much more sense to only have the custom fields apply to the current card you are working on rather than every card on the board?!?

This is an often sought feature. Currently custom field definition is at the board level. Have you tried Hipporello? You can expose different hippo fields (app specific fields) and influence whether they are visible. They have some automation as well.
