Can't drag and drop cards anymore

I’m having trouble moving checklist items within a Trello card. I used to be able to rearrange these items easily to organize my tasks, but now I can’t drag and drop them to reorder the checklist. This issue persists across different browsers, and I’ve cleared my cache, but it’s still blocked.

I would appreciate any guidance or troubleshooting steps to resolve this.

Hi @Jan Huisman  is it possible to take a screen recording of what you're seeing? Drag and drop of checklists and checklist items are working fine for me across browsers, so I'll need some more information to troubleshoot what you're encountering. If you're unable to take a screen recording, can you describe with as much detail as possible what you're seeing?

  • Is there an error?
  • Is the behavior present on all cards/boards? 
  • Are you able to pick up an item but it goes back to it's original position when you drop it? 
  • Are you seeing a "drop preview" or "space" between items when you start a drag and drop operation? 
  • etc. 

Any additional details you can provide will help us get to the bottom of what you're seeing.

Thank you for your response. I’ve tried to drag and drop checklist items, but I encounter the following issues:

  • I see a prohibited icon (like a "no-entry" sign) when I try to drag checklist items, which prevents me from moving them.
  • The issue happens across all boards and cards where checklists are present.
  • I can select the item, but when I try to drop it in a new position, it doesn’t stay there—it jumps back to its original place.
  • No "drop preview" or "space" appears between items when I attempt to drag and drop.

Thank you so much for your detailed info. @Jan Huisman  I have a few new questions now 😀

  • What browser and operating system are you using? 
  • If you click to the right of the checklist item name, off in the "gray space", in order to initiate the drag, does that allow you to drag and drop the item? From your screenshot and from my testing it looks like you may be dragging it by the text of the item (which also doesn't work for me when the checklist item is a link to another Trello card, though I see slightly different behavior from you)

Hi @Andrea Crawford 

Thanks for your detailed explanation! We're using Brave as our browser and Windows 11 is the OS, and indeed, dragging from the grey area seems to be working now 😅. Was this always the case? I've been using Trello for years and didn't realize this 🤦‍♂️.

@Jan Huisman  Wonderful! I'm so glad to know the cause. We rolled out some changes to cards in the last couple of weeks that accidentally changed this behavior. I'll pass this feedback on to our engineering team and see if we can restore the previous behavior. In the meantime I'm so glad you have a workaround.
