Mikes Trello Tips - Calculate a persons age 🧍🏽

I am rubbish with peoples birthdays and ages and have a Trello board to remind me of all the birthdays throughout the year.  

I added an age custom field but didn't want to keep track of that so today I share an automation to calculate the age based on a persons date of birth

What we are doing

• Subtracting the date now with the date in the custom field
  • To get this to be an accurate calculation use ~x which puts the dates into unix format, see more info here:

  • The value is returned in seconds, multiply by the number of seconds in a year

The automation

when the custom field "Date" is set, set the custom field "Age" to {date~x} - {customfieldvalue~x} /31556926000

Note: This automation will leave you with a horrible number, like 40.2948539483.  See my other article here to round up or down to a whole number

It didn't work for  me

I had to make two rules in order to achieve this,

And used one round up rule from mike, and it worked.

create two rules.

Rule 1

when custom field "Date of Birth" is set by anyone, set custom field "Age" to "{date~x} - {{%Date of Birth}~x}"

Rule 2

when custom field "Age" is set to a number greater than 1 by anyone, set custom field "Age" to "{{%Age}} /31556926000"

Rule 3. from mike

when custom field "Age" is set to "regex:/(\d*)\.(\b[0-4]).*/" by anyone, set custom field "Age" to "{wildcard1}"
