I've been seeing a lot of posts lately about folks being unable to find their Trello cards, so I wanted to create one post here that I can reference for folks (and update as I get new ideas).
I'm also planning to share in my Trello newsletter on Thursday, so if you want to subscribe to weekly tips and tricks in Trello, come join the party on my substack: https://trello.substack.com
If you've lost your cards and you're starting to panic, try these tips first:
Do you see something like this at the top of your board?
That means you've got a filter turned on and only seeing some of the cards on the board. Click the filter to see what the criteria is, or just click "Clear all" to turn it off.
You have to click twice to delete anything in Trello, like you have to really want to do that. So before assuming something is deleted and gone for good, click the three dots in the top right of your board then choose Archived Items. Here you can view cards—and lists!— that are archived. You can easily bring them back by clicking Send to board.
If you know the name of the card, search for it in Trello's global search (i think the experience is a little different in the new beta, which I'm on, but either way, you should see a search bar at the very top of your board that lets you search across all of Trello, not just the current board). Maybe the card was moved to another board, or you're like me and just forgot which board it was on to start with 🤷♀️
If you're sure you created this card, go back to that three dot menu in the top right of the board where the card was and click Activity. You might have to scroll around for a while but everything that happens on this board is recorded here, so you should be able to find that card and what happened to it.,
If you can't see a record of it in there, then maybe try checking activity on another board it could have been on.
For anyone who is worried about cards accidentally getting archived, I recommend creating an automation that sends you an email notification whens someone archives a card, and/or using Power-Ups that back up your Trello boards so you can restore previous versions.
I show how in this video (skip to about 4 minutes in if you don't want to watch me explain the places to check for missing cards first!)
