Hello Members,
Hope you all are having a good time.
I'm Vibhu, I worked as a Process Associate in a BPO Side for 2.8 Years and now I want to switch my career and for that I'm up for the learning some new skills and Jira is that one i'm looking forward to learn at my best.
Can someone let me know is the certification is needed at this moment or only learning can help me to make a switch and land a job?
I'm little confused weather to prepare for certification directly or not?
Hoping for the valuable solutions from you all.
See you soon.
Thanks in Advance.
Hi @Vibhu Agarwal , welcome to the Atlassian Community and thanks for your question!
The good news for you is that Atlassian recently made some of the courses and training material, in terms of getting an introduction to Jira, free: https://university.atlassian.com/student/collection/850385-learning-paths
However, to get certified, you still need to pay to take an exam. For me personally, I think if you put on your CV or LinkedIn that you have completed some of the free courses, it is already enough to garner the attention of recruiters.
I also tagged this question with the labels 'certification' and 'training-and-certification' so hopefully others will reply as well to offer their advice.
Good luck and let us know if you have other questions or doubts for how to get started!

Hi Vibhu,
You can start by free certifications provided by Atlassian University and then also learn the free courses as well. Start preparing for interview then.
After few interviews you come to know if certification is necessary or not, only knowledge will work.
If need you can always go for paid certifications as well any time.

Hi Vibhu,
Switching to a Jira-related job doesn't necessarily require certification, but it can be beneficial. Here are some considerations:
While certification is not always necessary, it can enhance your credibility and improve your job prospects. If you already have a solid understanding and experience with Jira, focusing on building a strong portfolio and networking might suffice. However, if you are new to Jira or facing a competitive job market, obtaining a certification could be a worthwhile investment.

Hi @Cristian0791 ,
Thanks for Replying.
It was a detailed explaination and clear few questions already.
I'll definitely look forward to act on the same.
Thanks

My recommendation is to work in the Atlassian ecosystem first for a while (Jira, JSM, Confluence) and get a good working knowledge of these tools. Only then, proceed to writing certification exams. After all, these exams are not easy at all (or: very difficult) and they certify / attest that the holder of the certification masters the concepts the certification covers. Experience in Jira (and JSM if applicable), supported by great Atlassian university prep courses, and practicing all concepts in your own sandbox environment, when combined, earns you the certification. To that end, I would not attempt the certification within the first year of working in Jira.

Thanks @Dietmar Doerschlag for the great explanation.
I will keep this in my mind and definitely i'll try my best to follow the same.
This tells me that i have to make my mind strong from the day one of my learning.
Thanks and will definitely be happy to connect you in future as well.
