Epic Name required

Do you know why Epic name is required in classic? We are having an issue where we can not import without the epic name and not all stories are attached to an epic.

Epic name is shown on the boards (Scrum Board backlog ie), when you click on the epic column. Enables you to give the epic a (short) name in addition to epics summary.

Tasks, Storys and other issue types are not required to have an epic linked to them. Unless you set your project up this way (field scheme or workflow).

Epic name is not required and I do import with or without the Epics......unless there is a rule built in your environment.
