Some delay posting new/updated incident messages to Slack channel

Sunny Yee February 24, 2025

Hi,

We have a Slack integration in Statuspage to post to a Slack channel on incidents.   We were testing with a new incident with 9 updates in 18-minutes span, and messages were posted to the channel right way.    Following that, we made 4 updates on that incident and created a new incident and an update in a 2-minutes span, but the 6 messages were all delayed in posting until 14 minutes later.

Is there an explanation for this delay issue?

Thanks.

Hey Sunny,
Thanks for reaching out to Atlassian Community!

Normally, our Slack integration posts messages right away when an incident or update is made. However, when many updates occur in a very short period, our system may throttle or batch the messages to avoid overwhelming the Slack channel.

In your case, the burst of activity (4 updates plus a new incident and an update in 2 minutes) appears to have triggered this behavior, which resulted in a delay of around 14 minutes before the messages were posted. This is not an error but a way to manage the flow of notifications during high activity periods.

If you continue to see significant delays or if this behavior affects your workflow, please feel free to open a ticket with us https://support.atlassian.com/statuspage/

Best Regards,
Egor

Hi Egor,

Glad to hear the explanation.  The burst of incident updates won't likely a be real scenario.

Thanks,

Sunny
