New Customizable Reminders for Long Running Incidents in Statuspage

Hello everyone! I'm Raj, a software engineer on the Statuspage team here at Atlassian.

We are excited to introduce a new feature on Statuspage that allows you to customize reminders for long-running incidents. This feature has been designed to give admins and incident managers more flexibility and control over their incident-handling process. With this new feature, you'll have the ability to set the frequency of reminders, ensuring that your team stays focused and aware of ongoing incidents. No longer will you need to worry about manually monitoring long-running incidents, as our new feature will do the work for you.

To use this new feature, start by creating a new incident. You will now see an option to choose the custom reminder intervals.

incident-create.pngWe have created four types of reminder intervals for you to choose from

First, you have the option to stop the reminders completely. If you choose this option, no reminders will be sent regarding the particular incident.

Second, you can choose the default reminder intervals of 3, 6, 12 and 24 hours. These intervals are beneficial for regular updates on long-running incidents.

Third, you can send reminders after every X hours of incident creation. This option allows you to set a specific frequency that suits your team's needs.

Last, you can set the system to send reminders after specific hours of incident creation. This is especially useful when sending a reminder at a particular time.

Moreover, updating the reminder intervals is simple. Just open the incident and update the intervals as required. This feature is designed to adapt to your changing needs and offers you complete control over your incident management process.

We hope that this new feature will help streamline your incident management and ensure that nothing slips through the cracks. Your feedback is invaluable to us, so please don't hesitate to share your thoughts and experiences with this new feature. Thank you for your continued support and happy incident managing!

Love the feature Raj. Thanks.

Two improvement opportunities:

  1. No reminders (I don't need them - I'm living and breathing the Major Incident and the emails are just spam)
    • Played around and worked out you can disable reminders - YAY thanks.
  2. Enter your own hours i.e. 48 - not every uses the Statuspage in the same way - I've had Major Incidents with vendors that dragged on for weeks (*sigh* try arguing with a director that decides this little feature not working IS a Major Incident and requires the full process)

This improvement wasn't on the the roadmap ( https://www.atlassian.com/roadmap/cloud?selectedProduct=statuspage )? Are there any other things planned that the community doesn't know about? (e.g. SMS subscribers have to supply a name not just a number? <- huge security concern for our internal use case).

Thanks for the feedback @steve mitchell! Yes, based on the data, we will explore the possibility of expanding the reminder window to more than 24 hours. Also, will update the team about the community roadmap.

Hi @Raj Sahu ,

We are disabling our test env during night and creating by api an incident that we close on the morning.
The problem is that I see no option on the api that allow me to disable this notifications by api (I have set the "deliver_notifications" to false, "reminder_intervals" is returned null either if the option is manualy enabled or disabled.
Our admin email is being spammed by this notification that are only usefull if an incident happen in production.

Am I missing something or is the api not up to date to this feature ?

Hey @admin phenix  as you can see on our API documentation https://developer.statuspage.io/#operation/patchPagesPageIdIncidentsIncidentId to completely stop the reminders, you will have to pass an empty array in a JSON format, that is, a "[]"

@Raj Sahu  We just experienced a long running incident that spanned 3 days.  The status ended up being posted for an extra day due to no reminders being sent past 24 hours.  We truly need the ability to set reminders past 24 hours.  Perhaps and option to send reminders until the incident is resolved?
