What git commands are executed when I "Reset master to this commit"

Been working on a branch for quite a while. I will branch off master to "version1" and then change master to be the tip of what is currently "version2". Merging is not useful in this case it is changing what master points to is what I want.

The problem is I either

  • research git commands to figure out at a low level to do this, or
  • assume that menu item "reset master to this branch" does what I want it to do.

Is there a "when you click on this menu action the following git commands are executed" document somewhere? My language may not exactly match the language of the App developer!
