Sourcetree crashes Windows Defender Security antivirus

For the past few months, Windows Security (Defender) antivirus service has been crashing, sometimes many times a day. I finally connected it to Sourcetree being open. If Sourcetree is not running, Defender is fine. Shortly after starting Sourcetree, Defender's antivirus ("Advanced Threat Protection") stops. It'll restart automatically eventually, but then typically stops again after a while.

I don't have control over what antivirus package is installed, so suggestions to switch that aren't going to help me unfortunately. Any other insights welcome.
