SourceTree "fatal: Authentication failed for..." bitbucket account locked

I get this error when tryin gto push or pull changes on sourcetree:

fatal: remote error: CAPTCHA required
Your Bitbucket account has been locked. To unlock it and log in again you must
solve a CAPTCHA. This is typically caused by too many attempts to login with an
incorrect password. The account lock prevents your SCM client from accessing
Bitbucket and its mirrors until it is solved, even if you enter your password
correctly.

If you are currently logged in to Bitbucket via a browser you may need to
logout and then log back in in order to solve the CAPTCHA.

i am able to log onto bitbucket when the captcha code is prompted. Please assist

What OS and what version of SourceTree are you using?

Brian Ganninger
Senior Mac Developer, SourceTree

I recently started seeing this issue past few weeks and I have no idea why it started or how to fix it.

I did update the source tree to 2.3.1.0

I'm on Windows 10.

Brian, was there ever a solution to this issue?

I think I've been experiencing a similar issue. Here's what's been happening:

  • In Sourcetree, I'm unable to pull or push changes in a project hosted on Bitbucket, and I receive a CAPTCHA error.
  • So, next, I visit Bitbucket online and I am able to successfully log in to Bitbucket.
  • However, when I return to Sourcetree, I'm still unable to pull/push changes to my project -- I get the same CAPTCHA error message.

Let me know if you need any of my description clarified. I'm running a Windows 10 system.

Would appreciate your help.

Thanks,

Eric
