As a workaround, create an empty key named ".NETFramework,Version=v4.7.1" (without quotes) at HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\.NETFramework\v4.0.30319\SKUs.

@slandeau I got same thing but my problem solved,  just use the older version (2.4.8.0) of source tree. you can get it from

I have the same issue here. It was running few days ago on earlier version and then I tried to update to 2.6.9 it said that it requires .net 4.7.x but i have the latest .net already installed on my Windows 10 Pro.

Any solutions?

Did you ever resolve this? I have the same problem... 4.7.2 is installed on my machine, but SourceTree continues to complain that it needs 4.7.1 - however, I can't install that version because Windows says I already have a later version

I can't even use the uninstaller or installer for Sourcetree when I was troubleshooting since it checks specifically checks for 4.7.1 I'm sure there's a workaround but when you can't even uninstall because of an issue there's a problem here >.>

From start menu open, "Visual Studio Installer". This will prompt a screen to modify your existing visual studio product. Select "Modify". This will open a Modifying VS2017 screen and from the installation details on the right you can check which .Net frameworks are available under ".Net desktop development" drop down menu. Select preferred .Net framework  and click Modify at the bottom right corner with "Install while downloading" option selected.

This will solve the problem!!

Why is it required to install .NET framework to work with sourcetree?

Sourcetree is built on the .Net Framework, so that's why it's required. Newer versions of Windows come with the required version installed.

Hello! .Net Framework 4.7.2 supports the following OS versions:

  • Win 7 SP1
  • Windows 8.1
  • All updates of Windows 10 after the Anniversary update (2016)

You'll need to upgrade to one of these to continue using Sourcetree. Do you know which version of Windows you're on?
