How to solve "fatal: Authentication failed for..."

Hey, Atlassian: 

Did you guys realize the number of times this question have been asked?

The authentication has serious problems, nobody understands why is so complicated to get this working.

Are you going to fix this once and for all?

At least write down a guide on how to authenticate properly, a FAQ, something....

There's many reasons why you might be seeing this issue but just telling us "it's broken!" doesn't help us at all.

Here's some possible reasons why it's not working:

• You're running an older version of Git that uses a version of the Git-Credential-Manager that has a known bug
• You're running an older version of Sourcetree that has this issue

Please read the article I linked that has info about how to update the credential manager. If you're still having issues -- just use a SSH key! It's easy to setup, and it's more secure.
