How to connect to Github?

This is extremely frustrating. Sourcetree 4.0 on Mac does not want to connect to Github reliably and conveniently.

I've tried:

* OAuth: doesn't work at all

* Basic with Github login password: requires my password every time; won't use keychain.

* Basic with Github personal access token: same as previous

* Deleting ~/Library/Application Support/Sourcetree: no effect

 

There must be a better way. Does anyone have a solution?
