How to Setup Multiple Authors

For reasons I don't agree with, all developers must share the same general user account on our various test VMs. But we want to enforce that the real developer use their name as the actual author AND use their bit bucket creds when pushing changes.

In the File Status window, just above the comment box, I can click on my avatar picture/name and a dialog box will appear allowing me to use the default author or enter an alternative author.

Questions:

1) why isn't the Options > Authentication > Accounts not selectable from the Committer's Author dialog box? This would solve both of our issues, force our devs to use their creds and then select their name/email address that is associated with their bit bucket creds.

2) If I clear the default author (from Options > General > Default User information) then I only see: " <>" and I have no ability to open the alternative author dialog box. Also, I can't commit my changes, so there is no way for me to enter the authors details at the time of commit - which is exactly what we need.

How can we achieve these two goals?

Thanks.
