How do we commit changes using our own user names

Hi, firstly I am new to this sort of software. we are using sourcetree within the company for version control on text files only at the moment. we are having issues though when making a commit. I can commit using another user's name on my laptop and the others can do the same. It auto changes the user and we can't change it back without starting again. can anyone help me out.

many thanks in advance.

Best,

William.
