How Do I Create a repository on one directory, while the project is at another directory?????

Hi, I am new to this, so while I was setting up the Source-tree, I found that whenever you make a repository, it will set-up it at the same location as the project folder.

I want to create them in two different location/directory. That is, the back-up should be in  a local server, and while workstation has the actual project, or vice versa.

NOTE : I am new, so correct me if I am wrong, is repository = backup ??
